Mothers bear the emotional and often physical brunt of intercommunal conflict: caught up in cattle raids, subject to gender based violence, abductions and the loss of their children.
In 2023, UNMISS HRD documented 885 incidents of violence affecting 3,340 civilians in South Sudan, subjected to killings (1,524), injuries (1,052), abductions (601), and conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) (163).
We recently helped Peace Canal to bring together four women, representative of four conflicting communities that we work with in Jonglei and GPAA to film a message of peace for their communities. Today, Peace Canal released the trailer.
This is a powerful message and a powerful testimony of friendship across divides, which we want to reach every South Sudanese community with, inside and outside the country.
